At Partners HealthCare, our employees are what make us great.
Each one of the more than 60,000 individuals who make up our workforce is a valuable resource and is essential in helping our hospitals deliver world-class care.
That’s why we are investing in our employees and helping them to attain their career and academic goals.
For many years, Partners Workforce Development – a collaboration between Human Resources and Community Health – has supported young people, community residents and our current employees in ways that enhance personal and professional growth including job training, internships, college preparation and mentoring.
As Director of Partners Workforce Development, I know that climbing the career ladder in health care generally requires post-secondary education. To ensure this upward mobility, Partners is continually seeking new and innovative approaches to increase access to education for busy, working adults.
We’ve been an innovator in online learning and we’re pleased to further expand our
outside-the-box approach to making education more accessible to our employees. We recently engaged in a unique partnership with College for America (CfA), an online program at Southern New Hampshire University, to enroll 46 Partners employees in a pilot program. These enthusiastic employees are helping to test a cutting-edge education model for working adults that is online, competency-based and that has been informed by us and other employers.
The program focuses on project work - rather than traditional courses - to prove competency and earn credits towards a degree. The individual sets the pace and can earn an associate degree in general studies with a focus on business management.
I recently participated in a webinar (recorded below) with leaders of College for America and discussed this new program as well as other innovative Partners Workforce Development programs.
Over the coming weeks I invite you to return to Connect with Partners for our Workforce Wednesdays series, featuring employee success stories and the Partners Workforce Development programs that are helping our employees excel and achieve their goals.
