Patricia is a Certified Unit Coordinator at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she has worked for 15 years. In 2008, she was working and taking care of her family, but she always thought about going back to school. She learned about the School at Work (SAW) program, which teaches college-preparatory math and reading/writing, communication skills, teamwork and conflict resolution, through the hospital’s Workforce Development office. Patricia enrolled in SAW and participated in the Online College Preparation Program, completing courses in online readiness, study skills and medical terminology.

In May 2013, Patricia earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Care Management/Administration from Fisher College. "The SAW program got me on my feet and taught me that I can do anything," said Patricia. “It gave me the courage to pursue my bachelor’s degree. Graduating from college is something that I wanted to do when I was younger, but I always put my family first. Now that I have accomplished this goal, I am so proud of myself, and my family and friends are also very proud of me."

With her degree in hand, Patricia is interested in pursuing a career in health care management administration. In the future, she hopes to obtain her master’s degree.
