Partners HealthCare is committed to strengthening patient care throughout the region. With intent to enter into a definitive agreement with Care New England Health System (CNE) announced this morning, we will outline details and plans to welcome into the Partners network Kent Hospital in Warwick; Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island in Providence; the VNA of CNE, based in Warwick; Butler Hospital in Providence; and The Providence Center in several Rhode Island locations.

The agreement would solidify a nearly decade-long working relationship Partners institutions have shared with CNE in cardiology, behavioral health, and vascular, thoracic, and colorectal surgery. "Our lengthy discussions and due diligence with CNE have strengthened our interest in building on the successful clinical collaboration we have already developed together," notes Partners HealthCare President and CEO David Torchiana, MD.

What would the formalized partnership mean for patients in Rhode Island, and across New England? The combined talent, experience, and resources of the organizations would result in more integrated, coordinated care in the communities CNE serves. And enhanced research—leveraging CNE’s relationship with Brown University—would redouble the organizations’ medical innovation capabilities, ultimately enhancing care.

“We hope to find common ground and mutually beneficial pathways to improve the academic strength of the hospital programs and maximize the benefit to the Rhode Island Economy,” Dr. Torchiana adds.
