Every day thousands of patients and their families rely on us to deliver great health care. Ensuring that each of those interactions are based on dignity and respect is critical to improved health outcomes for our patients. There are many talented teams across our institutions who are focused on improving quality, equity and patient experience to ensure that all our patients, regardless of their background or income, are receiving the care they need. To advance our efforts even further, we need to leverage that work system-wide to provide the greatest impact for our all our patients.

Tom Sequist, MD was recently appointed as our new Chief Patient Experience and Equity Officer to lead system-wide strategies for both patient experience and health care equity. His new department will support our five-year system-wide strategy, including building a value-based model of care that delivers affordable primary, secondary and behavioral health care that results in better outcomes for our patients.

Dr. Sequist is an industry leader who’s been committed to diversity and access to care for underserved communities for more than two decades and was recently selected as one of Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Minority Leaders. He is also a practicing primary care physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

We asked Dr. Sequist 4 questions about his exciting new role and how his team will be enhancing patient experience, equity and quality system-wide. Watch the video below:
